[PoT 20.5] Profile of Yagyuu Hiroshi
A most unproductive day academically, but it was a lot of fun! ^___^ Shopping in Osaka (haven't done that in nearly a month, good lord), Sabine's return from Austria (the girl is too nice to exist. She got us all stuffed animals, TONS of chocolate, *and* she sneaked sausage and bacon and cheese and bread past customs! ::melts::). *Plus* I managed to sort through my Giant Stack O' Crap that's been piled in my corner (aaah! why did I buy so many manga and CDs and doujinshi and omiyage?! I don't have any bookshelf space left at home to begin with.. I'm actually going to be forced into a new apartment by my purchases. XD This is sad.). [info]reieien, I think we get along smashingly as well. ^_~ (This is probably because neither of us has an ounce of self-control [well, *maybe* an ounce between both of us], and we're like giggly bunkmates when you put us in the same room.) XD And tomorrow is TeniPuri Karaoke Special Golden Power Remix Version 2! *dance, dance*

*cough* Um, right. And now for what most of you are probably after..

Profile: Yagyuu Hiroshi

The gentleman who burns with intense combativeness in the depths of his kind heart

Info: If you were to randomly encounter Yagyuu, you would probably never think that he was the main advocate for war on the team that makes Nationals-level players tremble in fear. No matter where he is, his speech and conduct are always gentlemanly, but he really is the king when it comes to tenacity in acheiving a win.

School: Rikkaidai Fuzoku (3rd year)
Birthday: October 19th
Height: 177cm
Weight: 64kg
Blood Type: A
Side: Right-handed
Play style: Serve and volley
Equipment: shoes: Dunlop PRS-300DG (Adforce); racket: Dunlop Adforce M1 Tour
Favorite food: Tokoroten (gelidium jelly) [1]
Hobbies: Reading (mysteries)
Family: Father, mother, grandfather, younger sister
Father's job: Doctor (internal medicine)
Best subjects: He's good at everything
Favorite color: Moss green
Type of girl: A pure and chaste girl

What we can see about Yagyuu from his birthstone:

Sapphire - Sapphires indicate a strong sense of sympathy and abundant affection. Being delicate, he is not pleased when harsh words are used. [2]

What others have to say about Yagyuu:

- Yanagi Renji: "I get along with him fairly well. He is a gentleman, but in some ways he is also our fiercest member."

---Explanations---

[1] In case you're wondering, this website describes it as: "Tokoroten is over 90% water, low in calories, and high in dietary fiber, so it helps “keep you regular.” It is just firm enough to pick up with chopsticks without disintegrating, and its cool, pleasing smoothness on the palate means it is usually eaten chilled. Refreshing and light on the stomach, tokoroten has been known and loved since the Edo Period as a summer dessert for ordinary people. "

[2] The original sentence is: (デリケートで、気に入らないことがあるとイラついてしまうような面も。) I'm not sure that mine is the best translation of this sentence. --;

------------------

A nice guy in public, a tiger in the sack? (And also concerned about his bowel movements, if you believe that website's description.) XD You decide. ^_~

EDIT: The Niou problem is solved. If you ever hear me asking what a word means again, your first question should be "Um, did you spell it right?" XD

*highly amused* eetosaa... kagehiki tte... *ase* jitsu wa ne, shiranai kedo... kare no shuumi de areba, tabun "rock-climbing?" Wakaranee...
Atashi, hontou ni shitsurei da na... *ase*

I hate romaaji. >.<

Of course, I'm really just guessing, lacking kanji or context. I'm sure you looked in a dictionary, much as I did, and didn't find anything; while I'm mildly up on Japanese slang, I'm definitely not 'up' enough for that. ^_^

(deleted my previous comment because it no longer applies, lol. disregard any lunancy that may have been involved.)

As [info]morphaileffect so kindly pointed out, the word indeed is "kakehiki" (diplomacy). I have turned in my Good Speller card to the authorities. --;;

*highly, highly amused* Yeah, I looked in my denshi jisho, and it was like "Hm. Nope." Glad it worked out for you! ^_^

hello...i haven't heard the word before either, i'm afraid. i DO know "kakehiki" translates loosely to "diplomacy/tact," but kaGEhiki...

the hopeful in me believes the "kage" in kagehiki is "shadow." this would make the meaning of "kagehiki" similar (but not equivalent) to le guin's shifgrethor, which i interpret in one way as an understanding of the hidden workings of social order.

the tiniest googling got me to this spelling: 風邪引き. i don't know what it means yet though, haven't checked. but i'm pretty sure it doesnt apply >)

XD XD XD Someday, *someday*, I am going to learn to double-check my spelling when I can't find a word. ke -> ge is, of course, the problem. So it's a girl who's good at diplomacy that I've been searching for.

^^;; I am such an idiot. I really need to stop translating these things in the wee small hours of the morning.

"I get along with him fairly well. He is a gentleman, but in some ways he is also our fiercest member."

Oh, great. Now I have an image of Renji and Yagyuu standing off in a corner...plotting. Smiling harmlessly, and plotting the downfall of certain people. Sanada and Niou should be very afraid.
